Several of our viewers have been in touch to ask about the new addition to the bird feeder.
We have been forced to put the additional protection in place to prevent the local population of Grey Squirrels from taking all of the nuts. In fact since it went into place the nuts are lasting almost five times longer than before.
The arrangement, which our regular viewers will remember we have had to use in the past, is temporary, the squirrels will soon lose interest when they find that lunch is no longer served!
To those viewers that have expressed concern that the present arrangement is stopping woodpeckers from feeding, please be reassured that several have been seen since the cage went into use. It is a bit less convenient for them but they can still get nuts (and they no longer have to compete with the squirrels to get them).
