FARM VISITS
Nestled in its own secret valley, Church Farm is a haven of tranquility
in the heart of Cirl Bunting country. The farm is situated on the site
of a Domesday manor with a remarkable 13th Century crusader church nearby.
In the 1920’s the the arch priest here was Rev William Keble Martin,
author of the best selling first illustrated flora of Britain.
The farm has featured in many BBC television production including BBC Gardener's World with Carol Klein, BBC Flying Gardener with Chris Beardshaw and was the location for the popular BBC Natural World, 'Badgers - Secrets of the Sett', narrated by Sir David Attenborough.
Various groups organise visits here for a walk and the talk which I give on the amazing history and wildlife of Haccombe valley, can also include a visit to the nearby crusader church. We like to limit the group size to a maximum of around 30 people but larger groups can be accommodated in late summer when one of our fields can be used for parking.
A new lecture room is now also available accommodating up to 50 people, complete with tables, chairs and facilities for audio visual presentations.
We also cater for all age groups, from Brownies and school visits to Rotary Clubs and adult education. Some groups like the International Tree Foundation, the Devon Wildlife Trust and RSPB come back year after year. I try and vary the walk and as I never use a script, the talk is always different!
"Everyone really enjoyed themselves, especially the optional cream tea afterwards."
Please ask if you qualify for a free visit.
Groups that have also visited include Probus, Rotary, local gardening clubs, wildlife groups,
coffee morning groups and various other fund raising groups.
If you have a group which may be interested please contact us early. The talks are very popular and we already have several bookings for 2010. Please ask for further details and availability for your next event. Telephone 01626 872310 to enquire.
